Long one of our favourite songwriters & artists on the island, Naoise Roo has been on an extended hiatus for the last couple of years. Thankfully, she’s just announced her return EP, Sick Girlfriend, and is set to hold her first show in a number of years at Dublin’s Project Arts Centre on May 4. The show will serve as a preview of the EP, with Sick Girlfriend‘s four tracks centred around themes of depression, the negative aspects of the music industry, and the stereotypes that burden women experiencing mental illness. Having not played together since 2015, following the release of their last album, Familiars, the band has announced a vinyl reissue of their career-defining album, Hospice, on its tenth anniversary. The album, which featured Sharon Van Etten on vocals, was one of the finest to come from the emotive rock movement of the noughties. Of the reissue, primary songwriter & vocalist Peter Silberman said: “We’re reissuing the Hospice LP on March 8th, 2019, in honor of…

In what’s in no uncertain terms the finest outdoor show Ireland will probably see in 2018, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds play their first date on the isle in over a decade at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on Wednesday, June 6. This follows a select few UK dates that managed to previously avoid us, in support of his latest album, the universally acclaimed Skeleton Tree. It was accompanied with a deeply moving documentary film, One More Time With Feeling, created to promote the album without having to talk about the tragic circumstances surrounding it. That The Bad Sees are on the bill is triumph enough,…
