• Villagers Announce New Album and Tour, Releases ‘The First Day’

Over the last few years, Conor O’Brien’s sublime output as Villagers has been nothing if not ecstatic, euphoric and escapist. Yesterday, the Dublin artist used those exact descriptors to introduce ‘The First Day,’ the first single to be taken from his forthcoming fifth album, Fever Dreams. Set for release on August 20th via Domino, it marks the follow-up to 2018’s The Art of Pretending To Swim. Accompanied by a Daniel Brereton-directed video, the coursing symphonic pop of ‘The First Day’ is peak Villagers and a strong indication that Fever Dreams could go down as a milepost in an already distinguished career. Pencilled in for…

  • Nomadic Rituals Announce New LP Tides

From Slomatics and Elder Druid, to War Iron and Astralnaut, Northern Ireland is responsible for some of the finest, most thoroughly crushing sludge-doom around. Perhaps most decimating of all are Nomadic Rituals. Comprising Craig Carson, Peter Hunter and Mark Smyth, we last heard from the Belfast band back in 2017, circa the release of their “sludgy, space-evoking, cosmos-atomising” second album, Marking the Day. Three years and one reality-mangling pandemic on, the band are back with news of their third full-length, TIDES. Recorded, once again, by Niall Doran at Start Together Studios, the six-track release is headed with the typically pulverizing ‘Them’, which you can stream…

  • Arthuritis – I’m Great

Pan-dimensional (Cork) experimental electronic artist Arthuritis is set to release his sprawling fourth album, I’m Great through KantCope on tape & digitally next week via Bandcamp. Following up on the supremely-titled Neglected Ambient Shirts Vol. 1 and The Worst Of, alongside Arvo Party II, it’s as texturally-rich an Irish album we’ve heard this year. It’s presentation belies the presence of a real vibe here, and like that artist, it deserves to be taken much more seriously than its name & presentation suggests. In Arthur’s own words, it’s “a collection threaded together by themes of confusion and isolation”. An eclectic collection, and an internalised world in itself, where…
