• Trick Mist releases new album, The Hedge Maze and The Spade, on Pizza Pizza Records

Trick Mist has released his second album, The Hedge Maze and The Spade, via Dundalk’s Pizza Pizza Records. Listen below.  The Cork-based Louth native’s personal brand of experimental folk is fleshed out across these 10 tracks, evolving on the lush electronic manipulations, violin loops and introspective songwriting of his 2018 debut, Both Ends. Where that album was created in a period of flux for the artist, written partly during his travels across India and South-East Asia, and amidst his relocation to Cork, the inspirations for this new collection are tied to more internal concerns, and are rooted in memory.   The…

  • Album Stream: Trick Mist – Both Ends

We’ve been big fans of Trick Mist here at TTA for quite some time. We first became aware of him back when he lived in Manchester, after he released the lush, dark single ‘Crumbs Abound’. Since, he has travelled across India and South-East Asia, before ending up back to Ireland and relocating to Cork to write his debut LP Both Ends.  Released today (30th November) via Dundalk’s Pizza Pizza Records, this LP serves as the culmination of two years’ work, incorporating his trademark violin manipulations with electronic and organic soundscapes. In October, he released the video for album track ‘Abroad In The…

  • Premiere: Trick Mist – Abroad In The Yard

We’re pleased to present a first peek at the video for ‘Abroad in the Yard’ by Dundalk songwriter, electronic musician and multi-instrumentalist Gavin Murray AKA Trick Mist. The follow-up to ‘Two Doors Down’ – a stellar acapella effort released back in August – the single is a self-proclaimed song about letting go of cynicism, comprising samples Murray picked up while in India. Featuring archive footage of simpler times, when kicking a ball with the lads in the sun was responsibility enough, Graham Patterson’s video for the release makes for an inspired accompaniment. Murray said of the single: “Abroad in the yard…

  • Video Premiere: Trick Mist – Fraction

On last Thursday’s edition of our show on Dublin Digital Radio we debuted the new single from an artist we’ve become rather fond of in the past two years. Gavin Murray AKA Trick Mist‘s blend of skilled songwriting, atmospheric electronics and percussion, and looped violins make him a solo artist whose output has only improved since we first came across it. Now, the newly Cork-based artist who had lived in Manchester for the past number of years, delivers his most mature work to date in the form of ‘Fraction’, a track in two halves that blends echoed vocals and layers of violin and…

  • Watch: Trick Mist – Crumbs Abound

Irish native, Manchester based Gavin Murray AKA Trick Mist  returns this month with a new split 7″ release, his first since his debut EP Jars in Rows landed last October. ‘Crumbs Abound’ follows on from the dark, metallic electronic backdrops of Jars, introducing a desert folk guitar motif to the mix, giving further depth to Murray’s gravelly baritone. The other side of the release features a track from fellow Irish musician Video Blue.  To coincide with the track, the video for ‘Crumbs Abound is a stark, abstract piece by director Graham Patterson. Trick Mist and Video Blue will play Whelan’s this Saturday the 25th of June with support from Participant. Further…
