• Watch: Come On Live Long – In The Still

Ahead of the release of their sophomore album In The Still on May 19th, Come On Live Long have released a video for the title track. With additional production duties from Solar Bears’ Rian Trench, it’s a cut that showcases the group’s penchant for  tempered atmosphere with Louise Gaffney’s vocal carrying it through to its conversely distorted peak, all brash Kalimba and agitated drums. The track is accompanied by an equally excellent video directed by Albert Hooi and starring Robyn Byrne and Laragh McCann.

  • Watch: Mons Olympus – Incognito

Ahead of releasing their long-awaited debut album, Vampyroteuthis, at Belfast’s Empire Music Hall tonight, space-prog quartet Mons Olympus have unveiled one of the downright funnest music videos from an Irish act that we’ve seen in quite some time. The accompaniment to riff-fuelled new single ‘Incognito’, the cosmically-inclined visuals were filmed on location at The Burren in Co. Clare, and other locations.  Stream the album in full and check out the video – directed and edited by Mervyn Marshall and Chris McConnell, with after FX by Paul McGrath – below. • Watch: Robocobra Quartet – You’ll Shrug (Live)

Ahead of a string of Irish and UK dates over the summer, Belfast’s Robocobra Quartet have unveiled a live video of ‘You’ll Shrug’, a highlight from Chris Ryan-fronted band’s debut album, Music For All Occasions. Filmed at the launch of said release at Belfast’s Reedemer Central Church back in November, the track’s sprawling tangents and sax-laden primal scream is captured in slick multi-shot monochrome courtesy of Belfast artist Stuart Calvin. Have a peek and endeavour to make one of these dates: May 12: Dublin – Whelan’s May 19: Brighton – Great Escape Festival (Hope & Ruin) May 19: Brighton – Great Escape…

  • Watch: Daithí (feat. Sinead White) – Aeroplane

Ahead of the release of his Holiday Home EP this Friday 28 April, Daithí has revealed another shimmering pop-leaning cut. Welcoming back regular collaborator Sinead White for a typically excellent guest vocal, ‘Aeroplane’ is a more melodic cut than the EP’s propulsive title track from last month. Despite its dancefloor focus, the track maintains its organic atmosphere through breezy keys, recorded natural samples and White’s voice, reminiscent at points of some of SBTRKT‘s collaborations. The song is brought to life by the accompanying video which features footage shot in Daithí’s hometown of Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare from the 90s. Speaking of the track…

  • Watch: BP Fallon & David Holmes – Henry McCullough

Look as far and wide as you so please but you’ll struggle to find a more positively unique, perfectly fitting and cosmically-inclined musical obituary than ‘Henry McCullough’ by BP Fallon and David Holmes. A peak on the latter’s exceptional Late Night Tales release from last year, the six-minute sonic eulogy is a sorcerous tribute of semi-mystical proportions, weaving Fallon’s beautiful offering to the late, great McCullough with keyboards and drum programming from Holmes, guitar work from Noel Gallagher, additional drums Emre Ramazanoglu and backing vocals from Nina Holmes and Lisa Di Lucia. Ahead of the release of ‘Henry McCullough’ – The Andrew Weatherall…

  • Watch Enemies Mini-Documentary Final Show, Final Song

Lest we forget, 2016 was a bit shite for a variety of reasons, not least in losing three of the country’s finest acts: Solar Bears, Fight Likes Apes and Kilcoole math-pop maestros Enemies. But ensuring the latter’s emotional swansong at Dublin’s Vicar Street in December was an occasion fit to re-live time and time again, Daragh and Oran Bambrick have created a rather wonderful, seven-minute mini-documentary titled ‘Final Show, Final Song’, which captures the Wicklow quartet bowing out in typically electrifying fashion. The band said, “It’s been four months since the night we laid Enemies to rest. Fortunately we enlisted the help…

  • Watch: Le Galaxie – Pleasure

Le Galaxie have always been good for a music video that capture the heart and soul of their craft. Following on the heels of ‘Le Club’ and ‘Love System’ from last year, the Michael Pope-fronted quartet’s latest single, ‘Pleasure’ (featuring the tones of Fight Likes Apes’ certifiably deadly MayKay) now comes with its own rather colourful visual accompaniment. Combining light and kinesis, darkness and subtle dance, paint and confetti, the video – which you can watch below – was directed by Sam Hooper. ‘Pleasure’ is out on April 21 via Reckless Records.

  • Watch: The Swedish Railway Orchestra – I Don’t See Any Daylight Anymore

Dublin’s Rob Smith has had an interesting musical trajectory over the years. From years of operating in singer-songwriter territory to exciting sojourns into a more punk sound, he has seen fit to always dabble in a styles that take hold of him at a given time. It was through becoming all the more enticed by the sounds of acts like LCD Soundsystem, Jape and Talking Heads then that Smith took it upon himself to start The Swedish Railway Orchestra, a project that embraces the computerised disco-laden energy of those acts. Armed with cowbells, a plethora of analog sounds from throbbing bass to swirling synths,…

  • Watch: Swords – Sitting On Walls (Live)

Dublin based trio Swords have revealed a video for a live performance of ‘Sitting on Walls’. Taken from their second album, Tidal Waves, which came out last year, ‘Sitting on Walls’ is a touching ballad for fans of Sharon Van Etten and Broken Twin. Diane Anglim’s brittle yet resolute vocal carries the track while a piano, bass and drum combo that wouldn’t seem entirely out of place on earlier Mogwai album gives it a rewarding backbone. The video was produced and directed by Amelia Caulfield and Gearoid Connaughton with live sound being mixed by Micheal Sheil. Tidal Waves is out now and can be purchased here.

  • Watch: R.S.A.G. – Meet You There

Kilkenny’s Jeremy Hickey AKA R.S.A.G is an artist that has always kept us second-guessing. From the likes of his debut Organic Sampler to 2010’s Be It Right of Wrong, the multi-instrumentalist has always struck a strong balance between familiar and forward-thinking, which is something he has yet again achieved with his new single ‘Meet You There’. Featuring visuals by partner in AV crime Paul Mahon AKA Geppetto, it’s a masterfully propulsive, perfectly danceable slice of electro-pop by the virtuoso drummer. We have this one on repeat.
