• Video Premiere: Ana Gog – Breaking The Atom

Dublin-based atmospheric alt. folk quintet Ana Gog are back with their first new music in three years with the video for ‘Breaking The Atom’. Ornately arranged with glistening textures, the song was produced at Arad Studios. Its intricately woven Abbey Road-esque – and we don’t say that lightly – outro harmonies are amongst the finest compositional moments they’ve achieved thus far. Ana Gog tell us more: “‘Breaking the Atom’ was written shortly after coming home from a long tour across Europe in our beloved, soon-to-be stolen van, Morris. In the midst of all the sleepless nights (mostly for ‘good’ reasons!), logistical nightmares and petty fights that accompany touring,…

As part of the 2020 EFG London Jazz Festival, one of Ireland’s finest live acts, and long-time TTA favourites Robocobra Quartet are set to broadcast a 30 minute set of their boundary-pushing jazz-infused post-punk this Sunday, November 22nd at 6pm. Expect established tracks and unreleased music from their next album, with the video recorded and filmed in studio quality. They told us: “This is the only live-streamed performance we’re doing this year and so we decided to take our time to do it right and make something special. Instead of just filming from an audience perspective to replicate a gig, our set is shot from…

  • Premiere: Comrade Hat – Whatever You Do

Off-kilter pop genius Neil Burns, AKA Comrade Hat has shared the latest single from his forthcoming album, Old Gods, Vol. 1. ‘Whatever You Do’ sees the lounge lizard in more reflective form, taking a slight left from his arch persona; It’s jazz-flecked, instilled with a morsel of vulnerability. Messr Hat told us more about the song: “It’s a ballad from BC (before Covid) about the struggles of physical distances in relationships, but it took on a whole new resonance this year. Aptly, it’s a remote collaboration with two of the finest heads around – rising stars of jazz and everything in the vicinity, Jack Kelly (double…

  • Video Premiere: Elaine Malone – You [1000 Beasts Remix]

Back in 2018, Elaine Malone‘s alt. psych-pop ditty ‘You’ was a thrilling introduction to one of TTA’s longstanding favourites, and today we’re pleased to unveil its reimagining by prolific Cork-based producer & multi-instrumentalist 1000 Beasts. Masterfully reframed into an even more warbling, tripped-out slice of lo-fi hip-hop – one of 1000 Beasts’ raisons d’etre – it matches the pull Malone’s trajectory has had toward psychedelic in the past two years. 1000 Beasts told us: “I first discovered ‘You’ way back in 2018, when Elaine first released it ahead of her debut EP Land. It always struck a chord with me so I reached out to Elaine…

  • Monday Mixtape: Slomatics

Belfast’s primary exponents of titanically heavy sludge, Slomatics, give us a rundown of some of their all-time essential tracks, from krautrock through to horror OSTs. Hawkwind – The Watcher Live Hawkwind albums can be a real mixed bag, and even for fans with as low a quality threshold as me they can be fairly disappointing. I’d avoided The ‘99 Party Live for years as I assumed it was recorded in 1999, a bit of a low point for the band, but this was actually recorded during Lemmy’s last tour with the band in ‘74 when the concept of 1999 was still very futuristic, and…

  • Premiere: A.S. Fanning – All Time

We’re pleased to give a first listen to ‘All Time’, the lushly-textured new single from Berlin-based Irish singer-songwriter A.S. Fanning. A Nick Cave-ian gothic mini-fable, Fanning weaves personal neurosis through time and memory. Navigating the maelstrom’s dream logic, its subtly psychedelic layering and glistening production push toward briefly lucid moments of internal respite. Of the track, Fanning tells us: “‘All Time’ is a song about love and acceptance. Or maybe love and mercy, to borrow a line from Brian Wilson. I wrote it very quickly one night, it just sort of fell out fully formed, as sometimes happens. I was thinking about Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, and the idea of being…
