Set for a late Spring release via No Dancing, Belfast-based singer-songwriter Robyn G Shiels has given us an exclusive first-look at the artwork for his second studio album, The Blood of the Innocents. Created by Edinburgh-based designer Ciara Dunne, the artwork (above) echoes the dark and malevolent visual accompaniment to Shiels’ recent video for the exceptional ‘Underneath The Night of Stars’, the lead track from the EP of the same name, released in May last year. Watch the video to that here or stream the single below. Robyn G Shiels is amongst a whole list of Irish acts play the Derry music…

Hi Darragh! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started? My name is Darragh Nolan, I studied Visual Communications in NCAD. I’ve always leaned towards the music side of things regardless of the medium I guess. I’m an artist (musically) myself so I guess it helps to be able to see an album cover from both sides, to be able to put myself in the shoes of the artist I’m creating for and wonder ‘what would fit?’. I’ve just naturally evolved into this area I think through knowing lots of musicians and the kind…

Hey there! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started? We are a Galway based band called It Was All A Bit Black & White. We have together since the begining of 2011. We are a two piece experimental band that make music based on loop stations primarily. Matt Sutton (me) on guitars/synth and Mosey Byrne on drums. We started jamming when we met in art college four years ago. Why are you called ‘It Was All A Bit Black & White’ and how did it come about? There is 2 answers to this.…

Hi there! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started? Hello, I am redmanAKA. I didn’t get into art college but I did get into a FÁS screen-printing course. When I was sent out for work experience I pretended I was a graphic student and got a job in a sign-writing/screen-printing company, in their art department, working mostly on artwork set-up, with a few design tasks. It was fun for a while. Then my brother (who had started a small graphic design business on his own) asked me to help him out and I agreed…

In the second of our weekly features on the importance of cover artwork, Loreana Rushe chats to Mark O’Brien. He’s the bassist in Enemies and the man behind the the beautiful artwork for their sophomore album, Embark, Embrace. Hi Mark! Tell us a little bit about yourself. Well, I’m 23 years old and living in lovely Greystones, Co. Wicklow. I graduated from IADT Dun Laoghaire with a degree in Visual Communications last year and have continued designing since. These days most of my work is coming from the music realm which is brilliant since art and music have always been…

A year on from the tragic, altogether untimely death of Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch aka MCA, the boundlessly creative, wonderfully thoughtful Dave Frecknall has only gone and re-imagined Peter Blake’s legendary cover for the Beatles’ 1967 LP Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band to feature characters associated with the Beasties Boys or referred to in a whole host of their songs. Awesome. Check out Dave’s frankly ingenuous creation and reference guide below! R.I.P. MCA.
