In late 2020, Constance Keane, aka Irish producer and songwriter Fears, and Emily Kendrick set up TULLE, a record label run for and by women, gender non-conforming and non-binary people, with the aim of creating a platform for underrepresented artists in the music industry. After self-releasing music as Fears for a few years, Keane wanted to create a permanent home for her art, while also challenging the cis white male dominance of the scene at large. The first release on TULLE is Fears’ own debut album, Oíche, a collection of ethereal electronic songs that delve deep into the themes of…

At long last, one of TTA’s consistent favourite acts of the last few years, experimental pop artist Fears has announced the release of her debut album, Oíche, on Friday, 7th May through TULLE. Accompanying the announcement is the second single taken from it, ‘vines’. Its accompanying video was directed by Fears and shot by Colman Keane, it’s a broadening panorama that perfectly compliments the transformative single. Seamlessly weaving the ancient with the new, and the rural with the familiar, she emerges from the sea, ultimately reaching the 2500 BC Megalithic portal tomb, Ballybrack Dolmen at sunrise. “This place holds particular significance to me” Fears says. “It’s…

Musician, producer and TULLE Collective founder Constance Keane aka Fears gives us a run-down of some of her favourite tracks right now, from Mitski and Francois Hardy, to Laura Groves and Hannah Peel. Laura Groves – Foolish Game This is off A Private Road, which came out in December. The entire EP is stun, but this video transports me to a world I wanna be in. Laura is an incredible songwriter and I’m really excited seeing her release self-produced music now too. Hannah Peel – Emergence in Nature From her upcoming album Fir Wave. This song only came out but I…

We can almost count on one hands the acts who’ve truly pushed against boundaries and thrived in the most challenging year for creatives in modern history. One such person is Constance Keane, who – aside from recently reuniting feminist punk act M(h)aol – has started her own record label (TULLE), made some of the most interactive underground radio shows in Ireland, performed several live sets, released single ‘two_’ with top-notch remixes, and today she rounds her year out with the release of ‘tonnta’. The song and video have already started to gain global traction, with plays on KCRW and NTS, and had a bespoke Dublin-wide scavenger hunt for a PR campaign, complete…
