• Premiere: Cal Folger Day – G.B.S. (Live)

You best believe we enjoy the wonky and wondrous pop of Dublin-based New Yorker Cal Folger Day. Having raved about her since 2014, the multi-instrumentalist chanteuse has recently been occupied with The Woods and Grandma, a stellar pop-opera that she released, via a documentary on Lyric FM, back in December. Featuring an all-star band comprising Phil Christie (O Emperor, The Bonk) on keys and vocals, Daniel Fox (Girl Band) on bass, Nick Boon on guitar, and Solamh Kelly (Myles Manley) on drums, the project toured across the U.S. in January. This week, Day heads off to perform Hamburg and Berlin. Backed by Aoibhinn O’Dea,…

  • Watch: Landless – Via Extasia (Live at St Joseph’s Church)

If you’ve managed to catch them live recently, you’ll know that Dublin/Belfast-based vocal quartet Ruth Clinton, Meabh Meir, Sinead Lynch and Lily Power AKA Landless are a force to be reckoned with. Last week, the foursome effortlessly brought Belfast’s Sunflower to instant pin-drop silence. Hosted by the Sunflower Folk Club, it marked the first date of the foursome’s current run of Irish dates, which also took in Cork’s Quarter Block Party yesterday. A highlight from the foursome’s stellar debut album, Bleaching Bones, ‘Via Extasia’ reveals the wonderfully daedal arc and flow of the quartet’s traditional craft. It’s something that’s doubly on display on Joe…

  • Watch: EHCO – Éiclips (Live)

Back at the start of the year, we tipped Kilcoole’s EHCO as one of our ones to watch for 2018. Headed by ex-Enemies member Eoin Whitfield, the project has hit the ground running via a handful of shows and a brace of slick singles. The most recent of those – and, by our reckoning, the band’s strongest single effort to date – ‘Éiclips‘ now comes accompanied by a new live video. Filmed on location at the Mermaid Theatre in Bray, it was created by Rosie Barrett, with audio recorded and mixed by Eóin Murphy and lighting from Conor Biddle. Catch EHCO at the Ballroom…

  • Video Premiere: Boris – The Power (Live)

Japanese experimental rock heroes Boris kick off their 25th Anniversary European tour in Moscow tomorrow night, a twenty-date traipse that concludes at shows in Dublin’s Whelan’s on August 20, Cork’s Cyprus Avenue on August 21, Belfast’s Limelight on August 23, before finishing in Helsinki two nights later. Ahead of what’s set to be a blitzing tour from the low-end merchants, comprised of Atsuo, Takeshi and Wata, we’re pleased to present a first look at a new live video of ‘The Power’, a pummelling, seven-minute, doom-drenched highlight from the band’s new – twenty-third – studio album, Dear. Check that and the band’s full…

  • Video Premiere: Aaron Shanley & The Horrortongues – My Mind Ain’t Pretty (At The Minute)

Primed to release his debut album, Metal Alligator, at Belfast’s Voodoo on May 24, Northern Irish artist Aaron Shanley now has a full band in tow in the form of the excellently named Horrortongues. Ahead of that, we’re pleased to present a suitably tripped-out live video for ‘My Mind Ain’t Pretty (At The Minute)’, a track we said was “a really tidy, very promising taste of things to come from the wanderlust-smitten artist” upon its original release back in 2015. Filmed at Millbank Studios in Lisburn, the well-honed, scuzzed-out lo-fi aesthetic of Shanley and the Horrortongues is laid bare in fine fashion Pre-order the stellar…

  • Watch: Robocobra Quartet – You’ll Shrug (Live)

Ahead of a string of Irish and UK dates over the summer, Belfast’s Robocobra Quartet have unveiled a live video of ‘You’ll Shrug’, a highlight from Chris Ryan-fronted band’s debut album, Music For All Occasions. Filmed at the launch of said release at Belfast’s Reedemer Central Church back in November, the track’s sprawling tangents and sax-laden primal scream is captured in slick multi-shot monochrome courtesy of Belfast artist Stuart Calvin. Have a peek and endeavour to make one of these dates: May 12: Dublin – Whelan’s May 19: Brighton – Great Escape Festival (Hope & Ruin) May 19: Brighton – Great Escape…

Go here for the Oxjam Takeover Facebook event page and watch the video below.

  • Watch: TVVINS – Book (Live)

Four months on from the propulsive electro-pop of their second single, ‘You Better’, Dublin duo Lar Kaye and Conor Adams AKA TVVINS have released a video of them performing a new track, ‘Book’, at Dublin’s Storm Studio. Featuring live drummer Lewis Hedigan, the track – evocative of the likes of PVT and early Battles – opens with the wonderful opening line,”So what? You read a book. I took it from you and you took a second look”, unravelling quickly to reveal an intoxicating blend of polyrhythms melding with throbbing bass lines, jagged guitar shapes and a general air of self-assured, summery…
