Portland-born, Belfast-raised rapper BeeMickSee releases his long-awaited, aptly-titled debut album The Belfast Yank globally on March 16. Some of the tracks have been made available through previous EPs & singles, available to check out on Bandcamp. With the question hanging over the album of: “What do you do when your parents move you from the hipster mecca that is Portland Oregon to the urban jungle that is post-ceasefire Belfast?”, the former punk-hop Bomb City 7 alumnus Brendan Seamus eschews the usual misogynist hip-hop patter – instead favouring lyrics chartering the experience of relocation in an unfamiliar, often uncivilised society, cross-Atlantic cultural parallels, strained relationships and bullying. Recorded in Start…

Featuring a heartbroken BeeMickSee, transatlantic indie-rap group Malibu Shark Attack have released their first music video, for ‘Better Off As Friends’. Set for release on March 17 via No Dancing, the single features vocals from Dudley Colley of Dublin three-piece The Dudley Corporation. According to the band’s Soundcloud page, the video “shares the turmoil and heartache in the loss of some of [our] most-loved groups. From The Undertones and Sleater-Kinney to The Streets and ABBA. [We] want you to remember one thing. No matter what happens, you’ll always have the albums. As long as you don’t smash them up”. Malibu Shark Attack…

Tucked into a corner of Weaver’s Court Business Park are Studios 2 and 3 of Start Together. Control room, recording booths, a treasure trove of sound equipment – this is Rocky O’Reilly’s manor, the place where the one-time Oppenheimer man, and production maestro, has helped deliver a dizzying array of music. Sitting in his favourite seat, the one beside the mixing console, Rocky has invited me here to tell me about his latest endeavour, Malibu Shark Attack. There is reason to be intrigued. First off, it’s the first band he’s been a part of since Oppenheimer called it quits in…
