• Michael Mormecha Launches ‘See Sea’ Kickstarter

Whether in the guise of multi-instrumentalist producer or mastermind behind acclaimed Northern Irish band Mojo Fury, Michael Mormecha has long been considered something of a singular creative force. It’s something that was also on full display on his debut solo album, LOFi LiFE, released back in 2016. Five years on, Mormecha is back with a Kickstarter campaign to make its highly-anticipated follow-up, See Sea, a full-blown reality. With a £3000 goal set, he is well on his way. Check it out and help him reach his target here. Mormecha is posting regular Kickstarter videos and updates via his Facebook. Follow here and watch…

  • Goodbye Mandela @ Mandela Hall, Belfast

So, the last gig at Mandella Hall. Probably a pretty great venue when you sit and list off all the great gigs you saw there. But nostalgia is for later. WASPS are a pleasantly rambunctious start to the evening, playing in Bar Sub they strike excitable silhouettes adrift in a haze of dry ice and some slick, stark lighting. They find their groove somewhere between desert surf and mathy punk and mine it to death, littering it with nice interplay and clever fills, throwing in some swampy rock riffs every now and then, too. They give an energetic and warm…

  • Final Mandela Hall Show Announced

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t forged a key memory in Mandela Hall since its 1986 naming, so the announcement of its closure – due to the development of the Student’s Union – came as a blow to many. Fortunately, the good people of the SU have invited And So I Watch You From Afar to headline and curate its final ever bill – a genre-spanning tapestry of some of the finest and fast-rising artists from here – taking place on Friday, July 27. On the bill are Mojo Fury, playing their first show in years, Robocobra Quartet – who’ve just put out one of the albums of…

  • Premiere: Mojo Fury – Trying To Get Free

As of noon today, it’s been 6,717,600 minutes since the first ever Mojo Fury band practice. Having released three EPs and two stellar studio albums over the space of 12 years, the Michael Mormecha-fronted band have long established themselves as one of the country’s most commanding alternative rock acts, always progressively pushing their craft into new, uniquely bombastic terrain, most recently on 2013’s The Difference Between. Ahead of headlining Spectrum Festival at Belfast’s Elmwood Hall on Saturday, we’re very pleased to present a first listen to ‘Trying To Get Free’, the long-awaited, typically emphatic new single from the Lisburn quartet. Making for…

  • Stream: Mons Olympus – Critical Mass

‘Critical Mass’ is the debut single from Belfast’s latest riff-pedalling prog behemoths Mons Olympus and was produced by Mojo Fury’s Mike Mormecha. The track comes from their upcoming debut album Vampyroteuthis, which has a tentative release date of Spring 2015. Having been in the works for the last year, progressive trio Mons Olympus comprises Rory Dee, Luke Burns and John Quinn, the core members of Chocolate Love Factory, who officially disbanded earlier in 2014. ‘Critical Mass’ is available to download for a mere 88p from Bandcamp, but you can stream it below: Critical Mass by Mons Olympus

  • Watch: Mojo Fury – All In Awe

Mojo Fury have unveiled the video for ‘All In Awe’, the latest single to be taken from their stellar second album, The Difference Between. A notably more cinematic, narrative-driven visual accompaniment (in comparison to previous videos for the likes of ‘Origami Bird’ and ‘The Difference Between’) the video was directed by Daniel Holmes. The moral, in a nutshell? Don’t text and drive. Mojo Fury’s next show is at Belfast’s Voodoo on Wednesday, September 24. FLAWS, Abandcalledboy provide support on the night. Watch the video for ‘All In Awe’ below.

  • FLAWS – Harsh Words Through Tangled Wires

The three piece from Belfast are releasing their new EP Harsh Words Through Tangled Wires through Thomas’ new label OLD FANG which has given us the EP from Little Rivers amongst other singles. Their new record deals with “the rawness of human relationships, from broken friendships to loss and regret – peeling back appearances to show the cracks underneath”. They’ll also be supported by Michael Mormecha of Mojo Fury who will be playing his new solo material on the night. Entry…
