• Video premiere: The North Sea – In Love

The first track to be taken from their as-of-yet unnamed debut album, Dublin alt-rock five-piece The North Sea will release ‘In Love’ on September 26 – and we’ve the first look of the single’s video. Shot by Second Frame and directed by Niall Conroy and Daniel Kennedy, it’s a nicely-lit, monochrome affair, perfectly capture the song’s slick, darkly tangents, reminiscent of the likes of Interpol and Editors. The follow-up to their promising, 2012 self-titled EP, the band’s forthcoming album was recorded live to tape in order to capture their live sound, and was produced by Grammy Award-winning Irish producer David Odlum…

  • Watch: Pere Ubu – Golden Surf II

A second single has been released from the upcoming Pere Ubu album, Carnival Of Souls. Since 1975 the band have put out fifteen albums and many other EPs and live releases. The avant garde garage rockers, fronted by the inimitable David Thomas, have never seen commercial success but have consistently pushed into new territory in countless musical genres. ‘Golden Surf II’ is an all-guns-blazing aural assault, featuring the buzzing guitars and unorthodox synth noises that helped Pere Uru build their reputation as one of the most important underground bands of the past 40 years. • Stream: MMOTHS – Santo

Conjuring desolate coastline nostalgia and streetlamp-lit, nocturnal traipses, Jack Colleran AKA MMOTHS has really hit home on ‘Santo’, a new five-minute track that has us positively hankering for his forthcoming debut album. Evoking a real submerged quality via washes of darkly, dense synth and masterfully rendered vocals, the track was posted on MMOTHS’ Facebook page with the message: “here’s something new i’ve been working on i know i’ve been quiet but more is coming soon thank you for sticking around x” Stream ‘Santo’ via Soundcloud below.

  • Watch: Skymas – Build

Having been steadily established themselves on the live circuit over the last few months, Belfast electronic trio Skymas have released a new track, ‘Build’. The follow-up to their Primer EP – released in October last year – the track is a typically gyration-inducing, rhythmically propulsive effort; main man Martin Corrigan’s refrain, “They give you tools to build your own prison. These are the walls with which you live in.” burrowing right into the inner ear and lingering long after the song’s five minutes. Watch the video to the track below.

  • Watch: Mojo Fury – All In Awe

Mojo Fury have unveiled the video for ‘All In Awe’, the latest single to be taken from their stellar second album, The Difference Between. A notably more cinematic, narrative-driven visual accompaniment (in comparison to previous videos for the likes of ‘Origami Bird’ and ‘The Difference Between’) the video was directed by Daniel Holmes. The moral, in a nutshell? Don’t text and drive. Mojo Fury’s next show is at Belfast’s Voodoo on Wednesday, September 24. FLAWS, Abandcalledboy provide support on the night. Watch the video for ‘All In Awe’ below.

  • Watch: Floor Staff – The Guest

Having released their Gift Horse/Brother to God Double A-Side last week, Dublin alt-pop Floor Staff have unveiled the equal parts frightening and ingenuous video for ‘The Guest’. A video about two expecting parents coming to term with the fact their baby is going to be a musician, it was created by Irish video director Bob Gallagher. Speaking about the video, Gallagher said, “It actually came about during an interaction I had with a shaman where I took part in an ayahuasca ritual. It’s a powerful hallucinogen that lasts for a few hours. I had a lot of different experiences during that…

  • Watch: Rainy Boy Sleep – Ambulance

Considered by many to be one of the country’s brightest and most promising young songsmiths, Northern Irish singer-songwriter Stevie Martin AKA Rainy Boy Sleep has unveiled the video to ‘Ambulance’, the first track taken from his forthcoming debut album, Waiting Games. Having been busy supporting the Waterboys on a few Irish shows – not to mention performing at this year’s Glastonbury – Martin has delivered quite a slick, infectious little package, the song’s earworming refrains and airy disposition gelling nicely with the accompanying video, which features the young songwriter going on a bit of a journey. Waiting Games will be released via Universal…

  • Watch: Oh Volcano – See No Evil

Ahead of their debut headline show at Belfast’s Voodoo on Saturday night (August 2), Belfast-based band Oh Volcano have unveiled their second single, ‘See No Evil’. The band, comprised of ex-General Fiasco members/brothers Owen and Enda Strathern released their debut single, ‘Oceans’, back in February. Watch the video below.
