• Watch: Sleep Thieves – Is This Ready?

Having released one of the Irish albums of 2014 in the form of You Want The Night, Dublin-based synth-pop trio Sorcha Brennan, Wayne Fahy, and Keith Byrne AKA Sleep Thieves has spent the last couple of years concocting a strong return. Bolstered by a sublime short film accompaniment courtesy of Spiceburger, new single ‘Is This Ready?’ exceeds expectations. A simmering, four-minute burst of darkly electro-pop, it sees the band’s sorcerous brand of sonic nocturnalism as potent as ever. Speaking of the track, the band said it was “the sonic realization of memories, visions, emotions, and experiences, set to a backdrop of the…

  • Track Record: Sorcha Brennan (Sleep Thieves)

As featured in one of our print issues of The Thin Air magazine, we spent some time with Sorcha Brennan from Sleep Thieves in her lovely home in Dublin to discuss her favourite records, from Why? to Jape. Photos by Aaron Corr. Jape – Ocean of Frequency What can I say about Richie Egan’s musical output? I’ve loved every album. I think Richie is a master of the perfect turn of phrase paired with the most singable melody. I’ll never get bored of Scorpio. Austra – Feel It Break I found Austra because Niall Byrne posted a video of their…

  • Watch: Sleep Thieves – High

Set to play New York next week, Dublin threesome Sleep Thieves have unveiled the video for their new single, ‘High’. Directed by Canada-based Irish artist and filmmaker Claire Byrne in Toronto, the video presents an otherworldly Arcadia of tripped-out, anonymous fantasy land; one that fuses extremely well with the Sorcha Brennan-fronted trio’s dusky electro-pop.

  • Stream: Sleep Thieves – Sparks (Haüer Remix)

Eight months on from the release of his (inter)stellar debut EP, Esperbyte, Dublin electro producer John Rooney AKA Haüer has unveiled his remix of Sleep Thieves‘ ‘Sparks’, the b-side to the latter’s latest single, ‘You Want The Night’. A synth-drenched masterstroke, the remix is a retro-futuristic, electro-disco re-imaging of ridiculously danceable proportions, re-igniting our excitement for new Haüer material later in the year. Haüer and Extra Fox support Sleep Thieves at Dublin’s Grand Social tonight (Thursday, May 21) Photos by Loreana Rushe.

  • Watch: Sleep Thieves – You Want The Night

A masterclass in woozy, nocturnal electro-pop, You Want The Night by Dublin three-piece Sleep Thieves is easily one of our favourite debut albums by an Irish band in… well, forever. A year on from its release, the Sorcha Brennan-fronted band have unveiled the video for its title (and arguably best track) ‘You Want The Night’ – and what a distance director Mike P. Nelson has gone to wonderfully, rather cinematically capture the song’s dark, marauding tangents.

  • Gigs of the Week: Young Fathers, Mark Lanegan, Come On Live Long & Sleep Thieves

OK, so we’re all broke. Big deal. Put that desire to eat to one side for another week in favour of hitting up one of the following. Trust us: you will not be disappointed – just very, very hungry, and possibly dangerously ill. You’re welcome. Out To Lunch: Young Fathers Black Box, Belfast Friday, January 16 An absolute credit to the ever-tasteful foresight of the organisers of the annual Belfast festival, 2014 Mercury Prize winning Edinburgh trio Young Fathers will play this year’s Out To Lunch festival on Friday night. “Where, like? The street?” you ask. Not at all: the Black Box.…

  • Interview: Sleep Thieves

Dublin electro-pop threesome Sleep Thieves have steadily spent establishing their reputation as one of the country’s most alluring and exciting acts. With the moody, hypnotic “disco-noir” of their Minty Fresh-released debut album You Want The Night winning an ever-expanding transatlantic fanbase, Sorcha Brennan, Wayne Fahy and Keith Byrne look set to soundtrack many more nocturnal rambles of the soul in 2015 and beyond. Ahead of their free show at Belfast’s new-fangled Woodworkers this Saturday night, Joe Madsen talks to Sleep Thieves about their colourful journey so far. Your LP You Want the Night marks your debut full-length album with US record label Minty…

  • Stream: Sleep Thieves – November Christmas

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: even remotely attempting to write a decent Christmas song is tricky business. Thankfully, there’s some acts more cut out for the job than others – acts like Dublin electro-pop trio Sleep Thieves, who have just released an ultra-lovely, synth-driven effort called ‘November Christmas’. A self-proclaimed “dreamy, bittersweet jam”, the track is diametrically opposed to any kind of festival frivolity – which, as you might expect, works very much in its favour. You can download the track now via Soundcloud.  Stream the track below and treat yourself to the band’s debut album,…
