• Exhibition Opening: Imperial Courts @ Belfast Exposed

    This Thursday (September 6th) sees the preview of Dana Lixenberg’s first solo exhibition on the island of Ireland in Belfast Exposed. Titled Imperial Courts 1993-2015, the series saw Lixenberg collect the 20th edition of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize in 2017. In 1992 the artist was commissioned to document areas of Los Angeles following the riots that took place after the acquittal of police officers following the much publicised brutality during the arrest of Rodney King.     This Thursday you have an opportunity to beat the early morning slump, or at least delay it, if you work in or around Dublin’s city centre. Temple Bar Gallery + Studios are hosting a breakfast club as part of their making connections programme, and it kicks off at 7:30am running though until 10:00am. As well as providing an opportunity to meet and discuss art with fellow enthusiasts, you can also view the gallery’s current exhibition: Proven Answers by Stephen Loughman.      Laia Abril – On Abortion Today sees the launch of this year’s PhotoIreland Festival, with a number of events in and around Dublin to mark the occassion. The month long festival coincides with the Eighth Amendment referendum on May 25th, and this huge societal and political debate is refreshingly not absent from either the content or structure of the festival.   • Exhibition: Gaelic Fields @ The Library Project

    Opening today in The Library Project is Paul Carroll’s new body of work Gaelic Fields. The project is the culmination of seven years work, that saw Carroll traverse the 32 counties of the island documenting local GAA pitches. These spaces are hubs of the communities and the artist’s capturing of these local landscapes speaks of the both the societal nature of sport and its impact on the land.     A4 Sounds need your help and more importantly they need your fivers! The interdisciplinary artist studio and gallery organisation provide affordable access to studio spaces, artist facilities as well as running workshops and courses. In recent years these spaces have been disappearing from the Dublin creative scene and their presence is vital for the community.     Alice Hanratty – Handsome Youth at Public Assembly I Carrick-on-Shannon’s The Dock is currently showing the work of three Irish artists: Alice Hanratty, Kian Benson Bailes and Eleanor McCaughey, in their latest show Like Me.
