One half of duo Ships, Dublin electronic producer Simon Cullen AKA Lastertom is streaming his debut album, DRIFT. Released via Nang Records, the nine-track release is a wonderfully-composed, synth driven effort from Cullen, who has recently described his sound as “slow-tempo disco”. Sounds about right to us! Belfast band Sea Pinks are streaming ‘Magpie Eyes’ the AA side of their forthcoming 7″ single, Exploded View/Magpie Eyes. Having released the equally superb ‘Exploded View’ at the start of the month, the newly re-recorded ‘Magpie Eyes’ is the sound of the Neil Brogan-fronted band at their very best. Limited to 100 records and including downloads of both tracks as well as two separate new songs, Exploded View/Magpie Eyes is out via CF Records on November 5. Belfast quartet Girls Names have unveiled the video to their new single, ‘The New Life’. Directed by the wonderfully-named Dan Tombs,it is one continuous take of improvisation, shot in an old industrial textile warehouse and filmed with a single static camera. According to Tombs, “the intention is to induce a hypnotic state that compliments the track and captivate an audience.” ‘The New Life’ is the closing track from the band’s second album of the same name, released back in February. Having kept their collective head down over the last few months, Dublin band Alarmist have resurfaced in fine style via their new single, ‘Bunda Internacionale’. The lead single from the band’s forthcoming new EP Pal Magnet, the song’s bobbing, shifting instrumentalism strikes a wonderful balance between the warped textures of Tera Melos and the Ethio-jazz groove of Mulatu Astatke. Aghagallon singer-songwriter Ciaran Lavery has unveiled a live video for a new song, ‘Left For America’. Recorded for Dublin-based live music platform BalconyTV, the track follows in the vein of his superb debut album Not Nearly Dark, which was released in March to a wave of critical acclaim. Lavery is is currently on a brief UK and Irish tour.
