• Stream: SlowPlaceLikeHome – Silence is a Rhythm too

    Donegal ambient electronica producer Keith Mannion AKA SlowPlaceLikeHome is streaming a new track titled ‘Silence is a Rhythm too’. Lifted from the forthcoming reboot of his wonderful Post-Hoc EP – released to a steady stream of much-deserved praise this time last year – the previously unreleased track will be streamed for the next week via his Soundcloud page.     With hints of everyone from Queens of the Stone Age, Echo and the Bunnymen and Mark Lanegan, Dublin band The Mighty Stef are streaming their extremely impressive new EP, Iveagh Flats. Serving as a sampler of their forthcoming new album – produced in Los Angeles by none other than Alain Johannes of Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures repute – the three-track release really underlines the band’s forward momentum at the moment.   • Stream: Alarmist – Bunda Internacionale

    Having kept their collective head down over the last few months, Dublin band Alarmist have resurfaced in fine style via their new single, ‘Bunda Internacionale’. The lead single from the band’s forthcoming new EP Pal Magnet, the song’s bobbing, shifting instrumentalism strikes a wonderful balance between the warped textures of Tera Melos and the Ethio-jazz groove of Mulatu Astatke.     Taken from their forthcoming second album – set for release at some point next year – Dublin indie-rock duo We Cut Corners have unveiled their excellent new single, ‘YKK’. Set for release via Delphi on November 25, the short track is a simple but characteristically infectious little slice of the two-piece’s craft.   • EP Stream: Paper Man – After Effects

    Showing huge potential, young Ballyclare-based alt-rock four-piece Paper Man have unveiled their debut EP, After Effects. Produced by Michael McCluskey, the five-track release (including a live track, ‘Hieroglyphics’) the EP “demonstrates,” in the band’s own words, “the roots from which the band have been influenced to write and play their alternative style of indie rock music.” Paper Man count the likes of local band A Plastic Rose, The Beatles and Smashing Pumpkins as three of their main influences.   • Stream: Hurdles – Control

    Belfast indie-rock band Hurdles have released a stream of ‘Control’, the lead single to be taken from their forthcoming debut EP, Where To Start. With the four-piece set to launch the aforementioned four-track EP at Belfast’s Radar on Thursday night, it marks the band’s first single release since ‘Kaleidoscope’ six months ago.
