DIY LK‘s resident emos-in-chief Casavettes round out a year that’s seen them tour the length of the land on the back of their debut album, Senselessness. One of the most prolific acts in the most prolific music city on the island, they’re back with new single ‘Imposter Syndrome’ – a 2nd wave homage which firmly posits them as potentially the finest of their ilk in Ireland. The caveat with most ‘scenes’ tends to be that there’ll be some nadir to follow, once its signature sound has had a post-rock-esque fall into over-saturation and self-parody, but Limerick seemingly has no throughline other than its open ear and fiercely independent streak. The city has been responsible for galvanising a new school of Irish artists, and Blindboy seems to be very much emblematic of that. One of the pillars of the DIY LK community, new single ‘I’m Not Here, I’m Somewhere Else’ is a low-key diversion from their anthemic early-Biffy inspired work, with its glacial guitar conjuring myopic images of that post-relationship confusion and detachment. Jimmy Penguin is a prolific producer & founder of Galway’s Community Skratch collective. Limerick-based Post Punk Podge is one of Ireland’s increasingly infamous vitriolic, satirical, and fast-rising hip-hop artists. ‘Synthesize Our Faith’ is taken from Penguin’s new collaborative EP, Savages – which features guests across the world of turntablism including Chilean Redmist – who cut much of the EP – and Dublin’s DJ Crutch, who co-authored the beats.
