• Watch: Gacys Threads – Salvation

    Belfast progressive hardcore/metal quartet Gacys Threads have unveiled the video to their new single, ‘Salvation’. The track is taken from the band’s split 7″ with Swiss band Colossus Fall, available on clear yellow vinyl via Belfast imprint Savour Your Scene Records (founded by Gacy’s drummer Stephen Currie), French label Left Hand Records, Germany’s Incredible Noise Records and Black Lake Records, based in Scotland.   • Watch: Savages – I Am Here

    Having delivered an expectedly blistering performance at the tenth Electric Picnic at the weekend, London all-female post-punk quartet Savages have unveiled their video for ‘I Am Here’. Directed by Joshua Zucker-Pluda, the video employs a technique initiated by composer Alcin Lucier: recording the band’s performance, playing the performance back and recording it again, over and over and over again. “There’s a real emotional intensity to Savages’ live presence,” said Zucker-Pluda about the video. “I was interested in the idea that the band’s performance could be so powerful that it would leave a kind of psychic scar or echo within the…

  • Watch: The Hot Sprockets – Comin’ On

    One of the best visual accompaniments that we have seen from an Irish band in quite some time, Dublin band The Hot Sprockets have unveiled the wonderful video for their new single, ‘Comin’ On’. A huge effort involving a case of colourful extras, the video was shot in one take by Little Beast Films at the rather beautiful Hazel Hatch House. The single itself is set for official release on September 20.     Galway native Olan Stephens AKA The Bedroom has unveiled the video to his new song, ‘The Big Up’. The latest audiovisual offering from the ex-Eatenbybears member The Bedroom produces, according to Stephens, “a distinct blend of experimental pop with an emphasis on bass and beat heavy hip-hop production.” Sounds about right to us. ‘The Big Up’ is Stephen’s second solo single, the wonderfully idiosyncratic video for which was directed/produced by the 21-year-old himself and filmed by Richard L Butler.     Directed by Sam Fitzpatrick, Dublin-based singer-songwriter Liza Flume has unveiled the suitably quaint video to her new single, ‘Swords’. The track – a delicately soulful, superbly unravelling five minute tale – is taken from Full Steam Ahead, Flume’s bewitching debut EP released via Toast Office Records in January.   • Watch: Kowalski – Let’s Start Over

    Bangor indie-pop quartet Kowalski have unveiled the lyric video to their sun-kissed new single, ‘Let’s Start Over’. Despite three-quarters of the band no longer living in Northern Ireland, the video – directed by Ross McConaghy – was filmed on location of the band’s scenic hometown. The track itself is taking from the band’s recently-released full-length debut album For The Love of Letting Go. The band’s show as part of this year’s Open House festival is our Gig of the Week.     Taken from his forthcoming debut album, Tony Wright AKA VerseChorusVerse has unveiled a live, full-band video of his track ‘Our Truth Could Be Their Lie’. Filmed by Bandwith, the video was recorded live at Graham House Studios by Phil D’Alton and Walter Da Goon of alt-folk band Master & Dog. Taken from the band’s fourth studio album entitled An Object – released today in the UK and tomorrow in the US via Sub Pop – the video for the track the brief, decidedly abstract clip was directed by the duo, Randy Randall (guitar) and Dean Spunt (drums/vocals).
