• Playlist: National Poetry Day

We’re humongous fans of poetry here at The Thin Air. As far as we’re concerned, the very best poetry is far superior to a very good song or album – the syllabic genius of a handful of rhyming conquistadors down the ages faring in a realm of incisive mastery that has little to no parallel in any other sphere of the arts. As it so happens, today is National Poetry Day and as we are also humongous fans of lovingly-assembled Spotify playlists of pretty much anything under the recordable sun, we have compiled a fifteen-track playlist of poetry (and music containing…

  • Arctic Tern – Leaves EP

Having released the extremely promising Paperboats EP last march and a double single at the tail-end of last year, Holywood-based folk singer-songwriter Chris Campbell has returned at an apt juncture in the year under a new music-making moniker: Arctic Tern. Having pertinently conjured darkest and coldest season in his nom de plume, the title of his new six-track EP directly references the decidedly Autumnal air and ponderous undercurrents woven throughout the release.  Beginning via lone and languidly strummed chords, opener ‘Love Is Not A Game’ gradually blossoms into as a wonderfully produced full-band effort with Campbell’s voice taking centre stage. Whilst contemplative and considered…

  • Stream: White Collar Boy – SUUU/TIDE EP

Ahead of its official release next week on Bodytonic, Dublin-based electronic duo White Collar Boy are streaming their forthcoming second EP, SUUU/TIDE. Comprised of the double a-side single – ‘SUUU’ (featuring vocals from Gemma Dunlovely) and ‘TIDE’ – and two remixes of their former by Frank Bird and Simon B, the release aptly displays Gavin White and Mark Cummins’ eclectic influences in Neu!, Fuck Buttons and Four Tet amongst others. Stream the EP via Soundcloud below.

  • Watch: Fuck Buttons – Brainfreeze

Ten years and three full-length albums in, Bristol electronic duo Fuck Buttons have unveiled the video to their new single, ‘Brainfreeze’. Directed by Andrew Hung from the band, it shows both members pulling faces, shirtless, through a warped lens. Cheap and cheerful, eh? Taken from their third album Slow Focus, the single will be released a limited-edition 12″ single via ATP Recordings on Monday, October 7. Watch the video below.

  • Exclusive stream and Q+A: Ed Zealous – Thanks A Million

Ahead of its official release on October 21, we are pleased to do a one-day stream of the expectedly exuberant ‘Thanks A Million’, the forthcoming new single by Belfast electro-pop quartet Ed Zealous. Taken from their giddily anticipated debut album – set to finally drop at the start of next year – the track is an effective distillation of the band’s well-honed electronic rock shtick. Stream ‘Thanks A Million’, check out its excellent artwork and read our  quick catch-up with the band’s guitarist and sampler Andrew Wilson below. Hi guys. The (brilliant) ‘Thanks A Million’ is taken from your forthcoming…

  • The Thin Air launch w/ Mojo Fury and more

Back in May we launched The Thin Air at Belfast’s Voodoo bar. Not only did Mojo Fury perform their debut album in full, Blue Whale, Vanilla Gloom and PigsAsPeople provided totally kickass support, ensuring a totally unforgettable night and a truly excellent way to kickstart The Thin Air. Two hundred people turned up on the night. It was loud, it was sweaty and it was captured by the upstanding gentleman (and indeed scholar) that is Joe Laverty. Thanks to Joe’s superb filming on the night and the top-drawer editing skills of his friend and fellow Seven Summits bandmate Dominic Coyle, the following Thin Air Launch Party video came into…
