• Final acts announced for Glasgowbury 2013

    The final acts set to play this year’s Glasgowbury Music Festival have been confirmed. Joining the likes of headliners The Answer, And So I Watch You From Afar and Japanese Popstars at the annual Eagle’s Rock Valley event are Dublin’s blues-rock band The Mighty Stef, singer-songwriters Katharine Philippa, Alana Henderson, Rob Murphy and Paul Casey. Dance DJs Deep Fried Funk, electro-indie band Don’t Fear The Natives, Derry rock band Wyldling and  Hurdles, Aces Wild, Windings and The Last Generation make up the final line-up. The announcement comes off the back of Belfast-based rockers LaFaro, ska-punk troupe Pocket Billiards and singer-songwriter Peter McAuley AKA Rams Pocket Radio being confirmed to play the festival, set to take place over two days…

  • Watch: Our Krypton Son – Gargantuan

    Derry based singer-songwriter Chris McConaghy AKA Our Krypton Son has unveiled the video to his forthcoming single, ‘Gargantuan’. Produced by Tristan Crowe and Sarah McGlinchey, the video features McConaghy and his band performing inter-cut with a short film. ‘Gargantuan’ is the third single to be taken from McConaghy’s self-titled debut album, released last year via Smalltown America Records. Our Krypton Son will play Music City 2013 at the Craft Village Derry on June 21 and Sea Sessions in Bundoran, Co. Donegal the following night. Watch the video below.

  • Kim Deal leaves the Pixies

    Pixies bassist and co-vocalist Kim Deal has announced that she is to leave the legendary Boston band, 9 years after they reunited in 2004. The band posted an announcement on their Facebook page stating: “We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best. Black Francis, Joey Santiago…

  • Queens of the Stone Age announce two Irish dates

    Having topped the US charts for the first time with … Like Clockwork, Queens of the Stone Age have announced that they will stop off at Belfast and Dublin as part of a UK and Ireland tour in November. Josh Homme and co. will play Dublin’s 02 Arena on Monday, November 17 and Belfast’s Odyssey Arena the following night. The full dates are as follows: November 16 Glasgow, Hydro Arena 17 Dublin, O2 Arena 18 Belfast, Odyssey 20 Manchester, MEN Arena 21 Birmingham, NIA 22 London, Wembley Arena Tickets for the shows will go on sale from Friday, June 21.

  • Stream: No Age – ‘C’mon Stimmung’

    Taken from their new album – set for release via Sub Pop on August 19 – Los Angeles noise duo No Age are streaming a new track, titled ‘C’mon Stimmung’. Set to feature as the third track on An Object – the follow-up to 2010’s impressive Everything In Between – the song is a brief but characteristically exuberant burst of experimental punk from the two-piece.   • Watch: Robyn G Shiels – EP Launch

    Filmed by none other than Therapy? bassist Michael “The Evil Priest” McKeegan and edited by Tristan Crowe, Belfast-based singer-songwriter Robyn G Shiels has unveiled videos documenting his recent EP launch. Performed in the totally unique live setting that is the Belfast Barge, Shiels launched his wonderful Underneath The Night of Stars EP following a set by fast-rising, Belfast-based band Arborist.   • Electric Picnic unveil official promo video

    Directed by filmmaker William Armstrong, Electric Picnic have released a rather lovely promo video for this year’s festival. Shot on location at last’s festival, the brief yet altogether enchanting piece of film goes some distance to convey the magic of the annual Co. Laois festival, set to take place at Stradbally Estate from Friday August 30 to Sunday September 1. Fatboy Slim, Bjork and Arctic Monkeys will headline the festival, celebrating its 10th birthday.     Were you at our launch party last month? You know, when Mojo Fury performed their debut album in full and the Blue Whale, Vanilla Gloom and PigsAsPeople provided totally kickass support, ensuring a totally unforgettable night and a truly excellent way to kickstart The Thin Air? 200 hundred people turned up on the night.   • Stream: Superhumanoids – Bad Weather

    L.A. dream pop trio Superhumanoids have unveiled a new track, the wonderfully laconic, decidedly lovely ‘Bad Weather’. Taken from the band’s forthcoming debut album Exhibitionists, the track is propelled by hazy synth and guitar arpeggios, as well as vocalist Sarah Chernoff’s superbly subtle delivery.   • Stream: The Rupture Dogs – Wake Up

    Northern Irish alt-rock band Rupture Dogs are streaming their new single, ‘Wake Up’. Taken from the band’s long-awaited debut album, Feral, the single will be officially released on June 20 at Belfast’s Limelight 2.
