• Stream: Keith Moss & The Tightrope Walkers – Troubled Troubadour

    Dublin four-piece Keith Moss & The Tightrope Walkers have released their latest slice of self-aware indie-pop in the form of single ‘Troubled Troubadour’.   • EP Stream: The Bedroom – The Graveyard of Ambition

    Having well and truly shed the skin of his previous outfit, Eatenbybears, London-based, Galway-derived musician Olan Stephens AKA The Bedroom has self-released his debut EP, The Graveyard of Ambition. Accompanying the five-track release is the video to its fourth track, the stellar ‘Disconnect’. It’s the follow-up single to last year’s equally impressive ‘Basquiat’ and ‘The Big Up’.     Taken from their forthcoming second album, Think Nothing, Dublin indie rock duo We Cut Corners have released their latest single, the brilliantly bobbing ‘Best Friend’ The follow-up to the equally impressive ‘Every Thief’ and ‘YKK’ by Conall Ó Breacháin and John Duignan, the track is a stripped-back affair, vehement vocals melding with abrasive guitar textures and a rhythm that emerges from a strut to a crashing conclusion.     Back in December last year, Fast-rising Co. Wicklow artist Andrew Hozier-Byrne AKA Hozier reached number 20 in our Top 100 Irish Tracks of 2013 with his spellbinding single, ‘Take Me To The Church’. His latest single effort, ‘From Eden’, has us equally impressed, suggesting great things for the songwriter on his forthcoming second EP.   • Stream: The Rupture Dogs – Before The Flood

    With an extremely promising year ahead of them, Belfast-based alt-rock quartet The Rupture Dogs have released ‘Before The Flood’, the second single to be taken from their debut album, Feral. Featuring two accompanying b-sides – ‘Hangman’ and an acoustic BBC session version of ‘Wake Up’ – the single comes to from on its chorus, the band’s grunge-tinged chord progressions melded perfectly with frontman Allan McGreevy’s wonderfully rasping vocals.   • Stream: Replete – Hold Me

    One of our Acts to Watch in 2014, Kilkenny electronic producer Pete Lawlor AKA Replete is streaming ‘Hold Me’, the first track to be taken from his forthcoming EP of the same name. An unwinding, near six-minute slab of throwback techno house, the track is Lawlor’s first release via Belfast’s Champion Sound Music, who will put out the aforementioned EP on March 4.     “This feels like a long term project, who knows where it will end up”. So said Lar Kaye of Adebisi Shank – and one half of Dublin synth-pop act TVVINS – in our interview with the latter last year. Two months later and the pair, also comprised of Conor Adams from The Cast of Cheers, have released their second single, the propulsive electro-pop of ‘You Better’.     Having just announced that they’ve been selected to play at the Derry Music Trail as part of Other Voices in February, Derry four-piece The Wood Burning Savages have released a wonderfully understated new track titled ‘Flu Season’. Written only two days ago, the song – propelled by fingerpicked guitar shapes, frontman Paul Connolly’s increasingly earnest delivery and impressively unravelling vocal harmonies – was recorded in the band’s wood shed just yesterday.
